Title

2010 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN STATE SERIES REPORT - Trevor Pound

Body

Great weather for Round 1 of the SA State series on 27 February.  An excellent turn out of sixteen Formula Ford/Formula Ford 1600 cars.  Formula Vee numbers down a bit on usual but will be made up at Round 2 where a field of around 40 cars is expected in support of the first round of the new “Formula Vee Australia” series.

Rhett Payne took pole position in FV qualifying which was possibly a personal best for Rhett in just his 2nd year in Formula Vee 1600.  Great racing in all Formula Vee events with results split between Scott Blake, Bo Jensen, Daniel Westcott, Rhett Payne, and Rob Surman in his new STINGER chassis.  It was good to see newcomer Glen Moulds finish every event.

Chris Slusarski in a nicely prepared RF02 took pole in Qualifying for round 1 of the 2010 Formula Ford 1600 Championship but was pressed hard by newcomer Dylan Richter having his first ever Formula Ford drive in the ex Bo Jenson RF97.  Excellent racing in all events beween Chris Slusarski, Dylan Richter and Michael Mohr.
Formula Ford (Fiesta) events were pretty much dominated by Roger I'Ansen who took pole in qualifying and won race 1 and Race 2 from Cameron Waters and Mike O'Donnell.  However a slip by Roger in Race 3 let Cameron and Mike through to take 1st and 2nd spots with Roger in 3rd in spite of a blistering best lap.
Racing of the Formula Ford series was again marred by careless driving of West cars including causing one red flag situation and almost taking out two Formula Ford 1600 through an over-taking attempt on the inside of Turn 1 .. an almost certain recipe for disaster.
